The Difference Between Casting & Forging

Forging is the shaping of steel using heat and pressure. Steel is heated in a furnace and then hammered into the desired shape. This can be done by hand, power tools, or machines.

How Do Forgings Compare to Castings?

Casting does not produce strong parts. It is difficult to make parts with perfect shape. It is hard to get the right size. Casting does not give you any extra strength. The casting process can’t eliminate all defects.
